I Loved Books From the Time I Was Five

I remember watching my grandmother sitting at a table and opening a big book.  The thing that impressed me most was there were no pictures in it but she was still interested in the pages which were filled with writing.  She explained that she was reading about things and people. I was hooked and wanted to do that, too.  Soon I was pouring over anything with words on it and began to figure them out.  By the time I began school I was determined to learn to read those grownup books as soon as possible.  It has now been over fifty years since I saw my first page of words and each new book I open brings the thrill back.
