The Piano Finale

December 1, 2008 on 6:10 pm | By admin | In Arts

“Don’t let anyone make you feel you don’t deserve what you want. Just hold your head up high and believe in yourself. Play with your heart and just let the music flow through your veins. It doesn’t matter to us what happens in the end, because come what may, you’ll always be the best for us.” Those were the very words my father said to me before walking up to the stage as the last finalist to my contest recital. I knew from the very start that playing the piano is something that I want to do for the rest of my life. Especially with some cool play piano software.I guess my family just knows it too well that they have been very supportive to me since day one. I walk to the stage and followed just what my father said. I felt inspired with each note I press that I let myself get lost in music with closed eyes. As I played each chord, I imagine the presence of my family in the audience who are very proud me. I smiled, knowing that whatever happens in this contest, win or lose, I will always be the champion in their hearts. I finished the piece with perfection and as I opened my eyes again to stand up and take a bow, I saw the audience giving my performance a standing ovation—the first and only one for the night.

Watercolors: My Favorite Type Of Art

November 21, 2008 on 9:13 am | By admin | In Arts

Although many of my friends like oil paintings and even black and white photos, I have always had a preference for decorating with watercolors.

Even as a small child, the soft pastels and gentle, flowing lines of many watercolor paintings intrigued me.

When I was in college, I fell in love with several steve hanks prints, which are some of my favorite watercolors.  By the time I graduated, I knew exactly how I could decorate my first home.

Even though I bought a small condo, I carefully arranged every available wall space so that I could put a watercolor on it and today my apartment is like a mini-gallery.

When I walk into the apartment each night, I am surrounded by the beauty and grace of watercolor art.

Top Country Music Station?

November 21, 2008 on 5:12 am | By admin | In Arts

Is there an award or status for a station to have the title “Top Country Music Station?” Not necessarily in number of listeners, as this would depend on market. But like a rating of on air personalities or the variety of music played. This is mostly just for my curiosity. I listen to online radio stations a lot now when I am at my computer. I would like to try listening to some of the “top rated” country music radio stations if they offer an online broadcast, just to experiment. I appreciate any information or opinions our blogging community can give.

Hip Hop Classes, Magazines and Trends

November 18, 2008 on 6:19 pm | By admin | In Arts

Times are changing so fast that if you don’t keep up at least every few years there’s the possibility that you’ll look terribly outdated. For example who still uses pagers…or floppy disks? Anyone??

The thing at the moment is hip hop so chances are that if you want to keep up to date you’ll want to keep an eye on what’s happening in the hip hop scene. One way of doing this is by going to hip hop classes and you can be sure to be getting the latest on what’s relevant today.

Or you can keep a close eye on the news. However since it doesn’t get as much coverage as it perhaps deserves for a movement so big, you might want to keep an eye on hip hop websites or magazines for more detailed and up to date news.

Getting Rid of Some Old Things

November 11, 2008 on 9:20 am | By admin | In Arts

My cousin is having a garage sale this weekend in her home because she said that she needs to get rid of a lot of things to make room for a new pool table that she is getting. I told her that I help her sell some of her things because I know some people that would be interested in some of her belongings. She has some appliances, but she has a huge amount of pastel paintings for sale. I have no idea how she is going to get rid of so many paintings, but I strongly feel that one woman’s trash in another ones treasure so hopefully it will be a successful sale for her.

Will Access to Free Song Downloads Increase Ahead?

November 2, 2008 on 2:21 pm | By admin | In Arts

There is no doubt that music lovers love free stuff.  Everyone does for that matter.  A few years ago, peer-to-peer downloading sites were all the rage.  Music lovers could share their music and receive free song downloads.  Just about anyone could build a huge digital music library at no cost.

This was not really fair to the artists and companies that own the rights to these songs, but the practice went on until some unlucky downloading music fiends were nabbed by the authorities and made an example of in the press.  Today, clever marketing agreements between record companies and promotional entities may actually make a larger number of free song downloads available to the public and these will be legal mp3 music downloads.

Celtic Instruments and My Irish Friend

November 1, 2008 on 10:23 am | By admin | In Arts

I never learned to appreciate ethnic music before. But when I meet my Irish friend Joss, my view on this type of music simply changed. This is because of the fact that I was truly amazed with the way Joss played some Celtic musical instruments on ethnic songs. It was so lovely that until now I have this appreciation for this type of music played by some Celtic instruments.    I even love reggae now, if it is incorporated with some rhythm using Celtic instruments. I can no longer simply get my ears off it every time I have the chance to hear it.

Television Show Can Give You Tattoo Ideas

October 23, 2008 on 4:29 am | By admin | In Arts

Reality shows are becoming more and more popular. I have even seen a few that are about tattoo parlors. I am always amazed at how much of a big decision getting a tattoo is, even when you already have a few tattoos.

Each person on the television show has many different tattoo ideas. It is remarkable to see what inspires different people toward different tattoos. They have so many different ideas for the tattoos that they have.

I was shocked that every single tattoo, they have picked out has a different meaning. Every person that I have seen has been very passionate about their tattoo.

Sewing Room Wreath

October 6, 2008 on 10:17 am | By admin | In Arts

Any sewist would be so proud to have this cute little wreath on their sewing room wall. It makes a very nice gift too.    SEWING ROOM CRAFT:   This small wreath is one of the cutest things I’ve ever done. It only takes about an hour. Going through old projects, I found the bare wreath and just kind of got carried away with my bottle of glue.   Celebration Of Needlework    1.  First I chose 3 coloured ribbons, each about 2 yds. long.       2.  Taking all 3 lengths in one hand, wind them around the wreath and tie a bow at the top.       3.  Now comes the fun part.  Search around your sewing space for odd buttons and notions.  Glue these on the wreath with your favourite craft glue.  The more the better.       4.  I glued ribbon roses on top of old, large coat…
