If you are an experienced worker, your resume will contain lists of the duties and responsibilities you have had in each of your positions. Check over these descriptions and take particular notice of the words you have used. Many of these have the ability to “date” you, for example “variety duties” has been replaced with “multi-tasking”. To modernize your resume, once again check the classifieds and see how the job descriptions are using words and phrases. Failing this, check with a library or employment agency, or perhaps you know of someone working in that particular field. Use the “new” phrase if it fits with your experience, in all future resumes. This way you are optimizing your chances of being selected for interview. Resume Tip:Remember that what you are trying to achieve is getting a potential employer to read your resume and be inspired. It is up to you to showcase your abilities and to do this, you must be willing to be adaptable in the way you present your skills. It is not the potential employer’s job to try to figure out if you are the right person for the job. Resumes really assist the employer to cull the group - to weed out the “also-rans” from the stars.
